I don’t actually understand, can you tell me how much % off it was at Target? Oh, I mean, Tar-zjaaayyyy ?

My dad would totally rock those New Balances, except he’s gone to some fancy Scandinavian orthopedic shoes (they actually look pretty good, though I’m sure he’d prefer if he could get them plain white leather/fake leather ).

I don’t get it.

I do wear new balances becuase they’re one of the few that come in wide.
But not white. I never understood the appeal of a color that shows every scuff or dirt.

Dont mind me waxing my C5 Corvette while wearing Air Monarchs

I’ve been looking at new hiking boots and can’t believe the number of options with white or light gray soles.

I am a dad, but I prefer the trail running varieties of New Balance shoes. My feet are super-wide and there aren’t many brands that can accommodate my brick-shaped feet. That being said, the latest offerings are horrendous.

I live in the (women’s) minimus trail and I actually wear them for road running too. The few years where they didn’t make them were depressing. They’re the only shoe that doesn’t cause issues for me on long runs.

That's fine, just don't drive it. Gotta keep those miles low

I used to rock the original minimus trail runners, but the updates cheapened them up quite a bit. Switched to naked Merrell trail runners and then they updated them to a suckier version. Trying out some Lems now, but they’re more of a hiking shoe. I only wear them for hiking and rock Vans for my casual shoes as I have for the last eighteen or so years.

I’m not a runner any more. Too many knee and ankle problems. But I do like the trail shoes. I’m also one of those weirdos who likes the five-finger shoes. I had some problems with plantar fascitis and going minimal/barefoot for a while really helped solve that problem.

I’ve admired the Merre ll s, but their version of wide isn’t wide enough.

Ahhh you just reminded me. I have a pair of those as well that I put aside months ago to figure out how to wash. I have time today, maybe I’ll work on that.

Don’t throw them in the washer! I learned that one the hard way. The adhesive along the edges will come loose.

Plenty of decent looking extra-wides now. This is just the performance runners.

That’s good to know. I haven’t shopped for shoes in a couple of years. It usually consists of going to one or two shops, searching for anything in my size, and selecting from one or two pairs of shoes because that’s all they have.
Thanks!

I feel like everyone commenting on this should have to say what shoes they are currently wearing so we can evaluate their comment accordingly.

I was laughing right up until I realized that I probably grunt like that when I bend over to tie my shoes. The human spine was really not designed to function smoothly for more than about 30 years.

I’ll be clinging to my Vans, and Etnies when I’m 70.

I mean I don’t get what this has to do with the Midwest. Unless it’s just another “hurr hurr them flyover country people are so fat and unstylish” thing.

It’s an entire video channel by a midwestern guy gently poking fun at midwestern (well, specifically midwestern, white suburban men) culture/behavior, although I would agree with your implied assertion that suburban white dads’ preference for comfortable but ugly shoes is not limited to the midwest. The tone is definitely “we kid because we love,” not mean-spirited. Although, since you mention it...

I have the post punk dad version of this combo. Vans and a Chrome bag.

I lived in Wisconsin for 18 years. In that time I witnessed many Midwestern Dads wearing the shoes in this video. 99% of which were purchased at Kohl’s. I shared it with love.

I’m 35 and my spine works just fine, it just hurts while it does so, and thus: grunting. That said, it’s only worse lately because working from home on a laptop at my dinner table is a lot worse ergonomically than my setup at the office.

I’m also a massive gym rat who stretches religiously, and I keep my joints well lubricated.

Good call, I think I’ll throw them in the bathtub with some woolite or something.
